Miami Heat small forward and former UCLA Bruin Jaime Jaquez Jr. shared his emotions on his sister, UCLA women's basketball senior guard Gabriela Jaquez, winning the 2026 NCAA Women's Basketball National Championship.
Just like the rest of basketball fans, Jaquez watched his younger sister torch the Gamecocks on the Bruins way to defeating South Carolina 79-51 on Easter and hoisting the NCAA Women's Basketball National Championship Trophy. In Phoenix, Jaquez witnessed his sister become an offensive powerhouse as she led the game with 21-points and five assists, as well as snagging 10 rebounds.
After Monday's practice, Jaquez spoke to the Miami Heat media, where he was asked about his sister reaching the highest accomplishment of a collegiate basketball player.
“It means the world, for her to really carve her own path…it’s something super special, something she wanted since she was a little girl — I know there’s a thing going around about her goals when she was in 3rd grade — writing down ‘UCLA basketball player’ and now she’s a UCLA Champion so really happy for her,” Jaquez said.
Gabriela Jaquez played for UCLA all four years of her collegiate career while shooting 50 percent from the field for an average of 9.9 points per game.
Just like his sister, Jaquez was a Bruins for the entirety of his time in college from 2019 to 2023 when UCLA was part of the Pac-12. Over the course of his Westwood tenure, the future first-round pick averaged 13.4 points per game, while shooting 47.5 percent from the field. Jaquez is now in his third season in the NBA, having made the All-Rookie First Team in 2024.
