Brooks Koepka made a major equipment change ahead of his last start at the WM Phoenix Open. And it sounds like the new flat stick is staying in the bag for the 2026 Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches, Koepka's hometown event.
Koepka switched to a TaylorMade Spider putter at TPC Scottsdale, the change coming a week after struggling on the poa annua greens at Torrey Pines. To say he struggled might be an understatement. In the first round, he lost almost four strokes on the greens, ranking dead last in Strokes Gained: Putting. The second round was much better, an improvement of nearly four strokes on the greens and he battled back but still missed the cut at an event he's won twice before.
This week in Palm Beach Gardens, Koepka is confident with more practice under his belt.
"I made a few changes. Everything is starting to get better, which it should. Got a game plan set going forward, which is nice, and making just little tweaks here and there," Koepka said. "I probably hit 300 putts with it before I actually played. But having two weeks of being able to get work done and make some adjustments, it should be a lot better."
Koepka's gamer had long been a Scotty Cameron blade, one he won five major championships with. But like other pros, including Scottie Scheffler, Rory Mcllroy and others, Koepka is the latest to switch to the Spider putter and hopes more birdies begin to drop during the Florida Swing.
"I didn't know where exactly I was hitting it, and obviously when you change putters, speed becomes another thing, and I felt like the speed was slightly off," Koepka said. "Now I understand exactly where to hit it and where it's going. I feel like my speed control has gotten better, and just with a few changes, just tidying those things up."
And perhaps switching putters is a good omen for Koepka. Five of the six PGA Tour events in 2026 have been won by players using TaylorMade Spider putters.
