The Denver Broncos had a tight-knit quarterback room with Bo Nix, Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson last season.
The band was broken up this spring when Wilson left the club for a promotion with the Miami Dolphins, but the two founding members (Stidham and Nix) remain. Stidham, 28, has six years of experience in the NFL and he's proven to be an excellent mentor for Nix, 25.
Broncos coach Sean Payton noted last fall that Stidham was a calming presence in the QB room during Nix's rookie season.
“I think there’s a real good demeanor," Payton said in October. "[A] calming demeanor, experience, so many of these things that may be new. Again, you’re leaving in a college offense, and you tweak so many of these things that Jarrett has seen. Whether it’s a read progression, footwork and of course obviously that room I like. Zach and [quarterbacks coach] Davis [Webb] is doing a great job. There are enough snaps in there, and there’s compatibility in there and that’s just as important.”
Joe Lombardi, the team's offensive coordinator, said Stidham was invaluable for Nix in 2024.
“It starts with ‘Stiddy,' Lombardi said of the QB room in December. "He’s a veteran. Really a smart guy. We’re in those meeting rooms a lot with them, but they spend a lot of time on their own watching film. Having that veteran presence to guide the younger guys through it, they know what to look for. They have habits that they can teach the young guys. So I think that’s been invaluable."
If all goes well, Stidham will only see the field for kneel downs in 2025, but he demonstrated last season that he's an important member of the team's offense.
