The rich get richer.

The two-time reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly acquiring Tarik Skubal, the top player on the trade market, from the Detroit Tigers in a blockbuster trade ahead of the Aug. 3 deadline, according to national reports late Saturday, Aug. 1.

Skubal, the reigning two-time American Cy Young Award winner, adds to an already stacked roster and rotation filled with future Hall of Famers as the Dodgers go for a three-peat this fall.

The Dodgers shipped out their No. 5, No. 7 and No. 17 prospects in exchange for Skubal.

The Milwaukee Brewers, who were swept by the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series last year, appeared to have the prospects - they have five of the top 100 and the top-rated farm system in all of baseball - to be in the conversation for a player like Skubal, even if he only ended up being a rental.

The oddsmakers were putting the Brewers, who after Saturday's win over the Los Angeles Angels actually moved a half-game ahead of the Dodgers for the best record in baseball, among the favorites, to land Skubal.

Instead, he goes to the Dodgers, whose pitching rotation will rival any of the greatest in MLB history. Milwaukee will likely still make another move before the deadline but whatever player or players they acquire next won't match what could have been with Skubal.

Here's how Brewers fans and other baseball fans across social media reacted to the trade on Aug. 1 as many feel there's little hope for most to compete with the big-money teams like the Dodgers:

What does it even matter anymore that team gets every single available star every single time. No one is stopping them. It’s over

Can we just get to football season

What a story it could be if someone takes down the Dodgers...

But dammit our sport is eating itself alive.

You mean to tell me, the Brewers couldn't offer up more than the 25th MLB Prospect, 68th 28 year old MLB Prospect, and a nobody prospect?

Extremely disappointing. This was not all in. This was embarrassing. Equivalent to Luis Pena, Jett Williams, and Jeferson Quero. Wow.

Nice to see the Dodgers finally catch a break.

Arnold isn’t gonna come out and say it but would love to hear what our final offer was. Tigers couldn’t have been stupid enough to say no to Pena so he wasn’t involved

People will be mad about this, but I just don’t see why the Brewers aren’t coming out with Skubal here. Really no good excuse for them to not be out bidding the dodgers they could’ve topped this. https://t.co/6838sy6NuL

Wild that the Milwaukee Brewers, who have never won a World Series and have the BEST record in baseball couldn’t top the return the Tigers got for Tarik Skubal?

Milwaukee fans gotta be furious.

Tigers fans don’t seem that happy either.

Skubal to Dodgers can only mean they’re scared of the Brewers

— Brian Niznansky (@BrianNizTMJ4) August 2, 2026

Two big losers in the Skubal trade:

Tigers - for being the 1039488th team dumb enough to trade for overhyped Dodger or Yankee prospects who only get hype cuz of great PR by being prospects in big MLB markets

Brewers - you couldn’t beat **that** LAD offer??? Let alone try???
