The Utah Utes schedule for the 2026 football season is really three different sections of games. There's a nice setup coming out of non-conference play into the Big 12 portion with an insane middle stretch and the finale. If the Utes want to get some momentum, there's a definite pattern to make it happen.
What's going to be the true test is the swing of games from October into November. The game against Houston at home leads into a Halloween contest at Cincinnati. This comes before a Nov. 7 Holy War with BYU, which is the peak of the Utes schedule overall. That's followed up by back-to-back road games against Arizona and TCU. Utah’s postseason fate depends on this set of games. Here's a look at Utah's schedule.
Sept. 3 — vs. Idaho
Sept. 12 — vs. Arkansas
Sept. 19 — vs. Utah State
Sept. 26 — at Iowa State
Oct. 10 — vs. Kansas
Oct. 17 — at Colorado
Oct. 24 — vs. Houston
Oct. 31 — at Cincinnati
Nov. 7 — vs. BYU
Nov. 14 — at Arizona
Nov. 21 — at TCU
Nov. 27 — vs. West Virginia
Utah could start the season 6-0 before the difficult middle section of games. The toughest one outside BYU will be Nov. 14 at Arizona. The Wildcats have made a few preseason lists as a team to watch in the Big 12. BYU and Texas Tech are the two frontrunners, followed by Utah, Arizona, and Houston in the top five in the conference.
One of the worst parts of this schedule is the spacing between games. Utah is idle the week of Oct. 3, which gives them an eight-game span in Big 12 play with no rest. Being able to recover from injuries might be the biggest factor for the Utes this season.
Expect Utah to come out of the gate swinging for many reasons. This is the first season without Kyle Whittingham leading the Utes in 20 years. To say they'll be trying to shed the old identity and make a new one is accurate.
Morgan Scalley has already taken steps to keep a similar culture, but add a few touches of his own. The beginning of the season will tell us a lot about how this Utes team is constructed. When all is said and done, we'll see how they face adversity late and where they'll stack up in the Big 12.
