Alan Brazil said he was recovering thanks to the help of a "brilliant" medical team [PA Media]

TalkSPORT radio host Alan Brazil, who is recovering from a life-saving operation, says he will return to the airwaves in "weeks".

In an update on Instagram, the 66-year-old former Ipswich Town and Scotland forward declared: "As you can see, I'm beginning to improve rapidly, which is great news. I was nearly gone, I don't mind telling you."

Brazil, who has not revealed details of the surgery, has been absent from his breakfast show since March.

"It's a miracle what's happened," said Brazil. "[The] NHS, brilliant. I can't thank the people at Cambridge enough, they've saved my life basically.

'Lucky boy'

In Monday's message, recorded while he sat outside in a garden in Suffolk, he said: "I'm on the mend, I'm missing radio. I will be back.

"Thank you for all the messages [of support], I really appreciate it and I'm a lucky boy."

He finished his message: "It won't be long now, a few weeks... Brazil is back."

He has hosted TalkSPORT's breakfast show for more than 25 years.
