Brazil will be looking to make history when it squares off against Norway on Sunday in the World Cup Round of 16.

With its illustrious history, it’s hard to imagine that Brazil hasn’t beaten every squad it has faced at least once. However, that is not the case with Norway.

In four matches between the two countries, Brazil has never won. Norway has won two of those contests while the two sides have drawn the other two.

Taking it a step further, Norway is the only team on the planet to have faced Brazil and never lost.

The first matchup between the two sides came in an international friendly in 1988 and it finished in a 1-1 draw.

The two teams wouldn’t meet again until 1997 in another friendly that saw Norway emerge victorious, 4-2.

The only FIFA World Cup meeting between Norway and Brazil happened in 1998 and Norway came out on top in that one, 2-1.

The last meeting between Norway and Brazil happened in 2006 in what was their last friendly. That match resulted in a 1-1 draw.

Despite the all-time advantage for Norway, Brazil is still the favorite over its opponent.

The Brazilians enter this match sitting at No. 5 in the FIFA rankings while Norway is in the No. 21 spot.

Brazil navigated through the group stage with a 2-1-0 record and surrendered just one goal en route to winning Group C over Morocco because of goal differential. Brazil tied Morocco and defeated Haiti and Scotland in group play.

Norway finished second in Group I behind France, which is the only squad to beat Norway in this World Cup. Norway’s two wins came against Senegal and Iraq.

In the Round of 32, Brazil edged out Japan, 2-1, and Norway defeated Ivory Coast, 2-1.
