Brayan Bello Hoping To 'Prove' He's A Starter For Red Sox originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Boston Red Sox pitcher Brayan Bello is hoping to prove to the team that he is a starting pitcher.
Bello has struggled in the first inning this season, which led to the Red Sox using an opener. On Friday, he pitched out of the bullpen against the Cleveland Guardians and went seven scoreless innings.
After the outing, Bello said he’s looking to prove he’s a starter as he doesn’t want to come out of the bullpen anymore.
“I’m in a mode where I want to prove that I can start and can go five, six innings plus, and what better way to do that [than] by doing it in the role they give me,” Bello said through a translator postgame on Friday.
Bello believes he’s starting to throw the ball better as of late, which has helped him have success, as he showed on Friday against the Guardians.
"I feel really comfortable with throwing all my pitches,” Bello said.
After pitching seven scoreless innings, Bello is now 2-5 with a 5.63 ERA in 11 games, including seven starts. He’s now gone back-to-back outings without allowing a run, after going seven scoreless against the Guardians and five scoreless against the Minnesota Twins.
Despite pitching seven scoreless innings, Boston lost 4-3 to Cleveland to fall to 23-33 on the season.
