Braves’ Ronald Acuna Jr. in disbelief after wild Marlins blunder leads to HR appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The Atlanta Braves are taking on the Miami Marlins on Thursday and took an early 2-0 lead before a rain delay took effect. Those two runs came from a Ronald Acuna Jr. two-run blast in the bottom of the third inning. But nobody was as surprised as Acuna to see that ball go over the fence.

The 28-year-old outfielder hit a moon shot toward deep-left center. Or, at least it appeared to be a moon shot, as the ball fell just short in what should have resulted in an out. Instead, Marlins outfielders Heriberto Hernandez and Esteury Ruiz bumped into each other with the ball bouncing off one of their gloves, sending it right over the wall. Acuna stood at first base, confused for a moment before celebrating the home run.

While typically a bounced ball over the wall results in a ground-rule double. But the ball never touched the ground, which means it’s a recorded home run for the nine-year veteran. Acuna now has 10 home runs on the season.

It’s been a frustrating campaign for Ronald Acuna Jr. He’s playing in just his 63rd game of the season on Thursday, as he’s missed extended time due to two seperate hamstring strains. Although health has been a concern, when the Venezuelan native is available, he’s still flashed that superstar potential for the Braves.

Including what he’s done in Thursday’s matchup so far, Acuna has recorded 56 hits, 10 home runs, and 17 RBIs through 231 at-bats. He’ll have a chance to improve those numbers and help the Braves in a playoff push once this rain delay against the Marlins passes.
