The Ottawa Senators have staved off elimination twice in their series against the Toronto Maple Leafs after falling down 3-0 in the Battle of Ontario.
The Senators will enter yet another must-win game on Thursday after winning back-to-back matches against the Leafs to bring the series to a 3-2 balance ahead of Game 6 in Ottawa.
On Tuesday night in Toronto, Senators captain Brady Tkachuk delivered a standout performance to keep their postseason hopes alive, making franchise history while at it.
Tkachuk finished with a goal and two assists in Ottawa’s 4-0 win at Scotiabank Arena, becoming the first player in Senators history to record three points in a game when facing elimination, as confirmed by the NHL’s PR account on X.
Tkachuk got things started by getting an assist on Thomas Chabot’s opening goal at the start of the second period.
Then he set up Tim Stutzle in the third with a pass for an empty-netter to double the Senators' lead.
Finally, Tkachuk capped his night with an empty-net goal of his own, securing the win and extending the series.
The 25-year-old also delivered five hits and anchored Ottawa’s forecheck throughout the game, logging 14:59 through 23 shifts on Tuesday, posting a plus-3 plus/minus.

"We're not going to go away easy," Tkachuk said when asked if his team had planted a seed of doubt in the Leafs. "Our season is always on the line in the last two games, and our mindset's not gonna change.
"You lose, you go home. So do whatever it takes and leave everything we have out there."
With the series now at 3-2, Game 6 shifts to Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa on Thursday.
"I expect pure insanity, that's for sure," Tkachuk said. "We just want to represent them well."
