While both teams enjoy a bye week, fans still need something to discuss and fret about. What’s a better topic than worrying how the media and computers perceive us? It is always a good idea to let others dictate your thoughts and opinions.

For the men’s team, their schedule for the previous week wouldn’t inherently boost their resume. Two Q2 matchups, both opponents demonstrated why they both find themselves among the bottom portion of the conference. While the wins over the two weren’t inherently impressive, scoring 50+ in the first half and winning by thirty or more in both absolutely deserves praise. The NET, a key computer metric for the selection committee, really appreciated the margin of victory. The Cyclones will have a tune-up game against Baylor on Saturday, who currently sits at 50 on the KenPom rankings, and then take on TCU in Fort Worth. After that? All hell breaks loose.

On the women’s team, they have gotten the turnaround they needed. After a five game skid, they have rattled off four wins in a row, all by double digits. While three of those wins were against bottom feeders of the conference at home, resulting in three Q4 wins, a win on the road over a ranked Texas Tech squad earned the twister sisters a second Q1 win, with only one opportunity currently remaining. The women’s team visits both Utah and BYU in the upcoming week, currently ranked 46 and 47 in the NET. The current cutoff for road Q1 games is 45, so we may need to do the hard thing and root for them to cross that line so our games against them add that much more importance.

So what is the current state of the program, with a hypothetical tournament starting today? Let’s check it out what the current projections say, along with a look at the Big 12 as a whole.
