With the first home game 105 days away, construction is still going on with the pressbox of Elliott T. Bowers Stadium.
The renovation, which began in early 2025, is nearly complete, but it has now entered a new phase. Earlier this week, construction crews started to tear down the existing video board. The construction displaced Sam Houston football for the 2025 season.
It will be replaced with a new board that will sit on the existing beams. The new board will be larger and will have a full display from edge to edge. The Sam Houston athletic logo will be illuminated at the top end.
With the new board, Elliott T. Bowers Stadium will also receive a new sound system throughout the stadium, providing a more immersive fan experience.
At the most recent Texas State University System Board Meeting, the Bowers Stadium renovation was projected to be 85% done. The substantial completion date is scheduled for July 2, 2026.
Sam Houston will open the new pressbox in its first home football game on Sept. 12 when it hosts Tulsa. It will mark the first game at Bowers Stadium in 652 days.
