While the Celtics are up 2-0 in their first-round series against the Magic, the main subplot remains Jayson Tatum’s right wrist. Tatum is officially listed as doubtful with his right distal radius bone bruise on the Celtics injury report for Game 3, set for 7 p.m. Friday in Orlando. Jrue Holiday is also listed as questionable with a right hamstring strain.

Tatum sat the Game 2 win over the Magic on Wednesday at the Garden, the first time ever he’s missed a playoff game. Prior to that, he had played in 114 straight playoff games since getting drafted in 2017. But the bone bruise in his right wrist forced him to sit out as he watched the game from the C’s bench. Tatum had a brace on that right wrist while watching his teammates.

“There will definitely be a chance,” C’s coach Joe Mazzulla said on Zolak and Bertrand. “He’s dealing with a severe bone bruise. He’s day-to-day and he’s progressively gotten better each day. Yesterday, he went through all the protocols and did everything you should possibly do up to the last moment to try to play. He just wasn’t able to do it but he’ll go back at it again today and he’s in that day-to-day process right now.”

Holiday being questionable is also a new development. The guard played 36 minutes in the Game 2 victory, finishing with 11 points, six assists and four rebounds. Hamstring strains can be tricky, so that’s something else the Celtics will need to keep an eye on, as well.

Jaylen Brown stepped up in Tatum’s absence in Game 2, putting up 36 points and looking like the best player on the court. The Celtics will need more of that even if Tatum is able to play. He hurt his right wrist, his shooting hand, so that’ll have an effect on his game for the foreseeable future.

Tatum was originally doubtful for the Game 2 win before being downgraded to out. He continues to be day-to-day with the injury he suffered in Game 1. Tatum hurt his wrist after a flagrant foul from Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in the fourth quarter of Game 1. While Tatum finished out the Game 1 victory, the bone bruise remains an ongoing problem.
