Borussia Dortmund scramble to activate Daniel Svensson’s automatic purchase option

Swedish international Daniel Svensson’s loan arrangement with Borussia Dortmund is known to contain an automatic purchase clause. Details of said clause have now emerged via Sky Germany. The German broadcaster reports that the Bundesliga outfit will actively attempt to trigger the clause as the season winds down.

According to Sky, 15 appearances across all competitions will render Svensson permanent BVB property for a price tag of between €5.5m and €6.5m. At present the 23-year-old has made 11 appearances across all comps under head coach Niko Kovac.

Dortmund’s desire to keep the Nordsjælland professional remains common knowledge. Whether or not die Schwarzgelben can trigger the clause in time remains to be seen. Kovac must find a way of using the player he eminently respects in four of the five remaining Bundesliga fixtures.

Naturally, Dortmund could still sign Svensson even if the obligatory clause is not met. A reasonable deal with the Danish outfit could be arranged. Svensson’s current purchase option conforms precisely to his current estimated market worth.
