Shortly before the Chicago Blackhawks hit the ice for the morning skate in New Jersey, the team announced a somewhat surprising roster transaction. Kevin Korchinski, another one of GM Kyle Davidson’s former first-round draft picks, was recalled from the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL.

Korchinski, the seventh overall selection in the 2022 NHL Draft, was present for the team’s morning skate, which explains why he didn’t suit up for the IceHogs against the Iowa Wild on Saturday night. He and Rockford were both given the heads-up that the roster move was coming, and the reason behind it became clear when Artyom Levshunov didn’t join the rest of his teammates on Sunday.

According to head coach Jeff Blashill, Levshunov suffered a fracture in his left hand in Tuesday’s win over the New York Islanders and played through it for the last two games. However, he’s now undergoing further testing and imagining, meaning he’ll draw out of the lineup against the New Jersey Devils in the final game of the road trip. Levshunov’s timeline to return is still to be determined.

Korchinski will make his fifth NHL appearance of the 2025-26 campaign on Sunday, and he’s expected to skate on the third pairing alongside Ethan Del Mastro. The two have plenty of experience together with the IceHogs this season, and the Blackhawks hope they can hold up together against New Jersey.

I don't see Levshunov at Blackhawks skate. Here are the D pairs:

The Hawks will also be without Matt Grzelcyk, the lone veteran left on the blue line, once again for Sunday’s matchup. All six defensemen in the lineup will be between 21 and 24 years of age.
