After Judge Ken Curry of the 99th District Court of Lubbock County granted Texas Tech quarterback Brandan Sorsby a temporary injunction against the NCAA's ruling on his athletic ineligibility on Monday, June 8, the Big Ten is reportedly considering barring members from competing against Texas Tech in all sports.

According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, Big Ten officials are expected to discuss a league-wide mandate in the coming days not to play Texas Tech in any sport, following Nebraska Athletic Director Troy Dannen's announcement on Monday that his staff isn't allowed to schedule Texas Tech for any of the Cornhuskers' sports.

Along with Nebraska, Georgia has taken similar steps to avoid scheduling the Red Raiders in any athletic competition, a move that could garner broader consideration across the SEC in the near future.

"Based on recent developments, Georgia Athletics will not schedule future contests against Texas Tech until further notice,” Georgia compliance director Will Lawler wrote in a memo to coaches and staff Monday afternoon. “Please review your sport’s current schedules and future scheduling plans. If you have any contests currently scheduled against Texas Tech, or are actively engaged in scheduling discussions with Texas Tech, please notify your sports administrator as soon as possible so we can evaluate the situation and determine next steps.”

While Iowa has yet to make a statement on the matter, the court's temporary injunction in favor of Sorsby has outraged Hawkeye fans in particular, after the NCAA previously ruled former defensive lineman Noah Shannon ineligible for placing one bet on the Iowa women's basketball team during its 2023 NCAA Tournament run.

Compared with Shannon's actions, there is an overwhelming sense of hypocrisy in Sorsby's vindication, as he placed more than 9,000 bets totaling over $90,000 over the past few years.

This abrupt call for conference self-governance is yet another result of a constantly changing college sports landscape filled with more questions than answers and contradictions of past precedents.
