FRISCO, Texas — Corporate sponsorship in college athletics isn't new, but it's about to become even more in-your-face in the form of titles, uniform patches and on-field logos.
The Big 12 Conference announced a new multi-year agreement with Monster Energy on July 7, naming the brand as the entitlement partner of Big 12 football and basketball.
"Last year, we entered a partnership with Monster Energy to be the official energy drink of the Big 12 and today, we build on that with Monster Energy becoming the entitlement partner of Big 12 football and Big 12 basketball regular seasons," Yormark said at Big 12 Football Media Days. "Our multi-year partnership is the first of its kind."
The deal between the Big 12 and Monster Energy is reported to bring in $20 million for the conference and is set to give member schools $1 million annually.
According to Yormark, a co-branded Monster Energy and Big 12 Conference logo patch will be featured on football and basketball jerseys, fields and basketball courts.
The deal was apparent, as the Big 12 Football Media Days were officially titled the "Monster Energy Big 12 Football Media Days." Similarly, the Big 12 will brand its football and basketball regular seasons as "Monster Energy Big 12 Football" and "Monster Energy Big 12 Basketball."
