There are a few notable roster battles that could take shape during Cincinnati Bengals training camp.

One is at wideout, where rookie Colbie Young might be able to push for snaps behind Andrei Iosivas. Another is for depth spots along the offensive line.

By far the biggest, though, is where the Bengals don’t have a locked-in starter: Slot cornerback.

The Bengals have an in-house candidate to start in the slot with Jalen Davis. But they brought on Ja’Sir Taylor and Josh Newton is a recent draft pick there, too.

Don’t sleep on the fact that rookie Tacario Davis is making some noise, too.

Davis will probably be more of a situational weapon for the defense while the other three names technically fight for full-time slot duties.

But there’s no telling who really ends up with the job. And in a multiple defense like this, the Week 1 “starter” and who “starts” a game weekly in that spot isn’t going to end up being as important as the overall snap counts by the end of the season. Keep in mind that safeties like Dax Hill and Kyle Dugger will line up there, too.

Which is to say, the cornerback battle and who lines up in what packages and why will be really interesting to watch this summer during Bengals training camp.
