The Chicago Bears found a star-in-the-making with tight end Colston Loveland, who made a strong impression during his rookie season, where he showed exactly why he was coveted by head coach Ben Johnson at 10th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Loveland led the team in receptions (58) and receiving yards (713), and he really didn't even get going until midway through the 2025 season, showcasing his receiver-like separation and pass-catching ability. In the final 12 games of the season (including two postseason contests), he caught 59 passes for 790 yards and six touchdowns.

When looking at his impact as a rookie, it's hard not to imagine him developing into a superstar in the league, especially as he continues to find new opportunities in Johnson's offense and becomes a favorite target for quarterback Caleb Williams.

If you weren't already high on Loveland heading into the 2026 season, listening to Johnson rave about his consistency, work ethic and potential should tell you everything you need to know about the young tight end.

"I love what he brings to the table," Johnson said. "He's one of the most consistent players I've been around. And that's saying a lot for a young guy. I think it takes a while before guys can truly understand what it means to be a professional. But he’s in early, he's always in his playbook, he's always taking notes. I think he really thrives with being available and the pressure moments. That's the type of guy that he wants to be. (He has) A lot of trust with the coaching staff and with the quarterbacks. I'm really happy with where he's at right now. We've been able to take the route tree to the next level and it's something we're going to continue to develop in training camp as well."

Johnson doesn't hand out praise like that to just anyone, so listening to his evaluation of Loveland from his rookie season to now certainly speaks volumes. And the scary part, at least for opposing defenses, is Loveland was able to wreak havoc after just one year in Johnson's offense. He's only going to get better from here.
