Before cutting him, Mets’ Carlos Mendoza embarrassed veteran in a ridiculous way originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Everything continues to just crash down for the New York Mets, a very unfortunate situation for a team that desperately wants to figure it out. The Mets just aren't playing the type of baseball they were expected to play entering the year, and they've tried a few creative ways to fix it.
Unfortunately for New York, a lot of those moves haven't worked out in their favor, as they recently picked up Andy Ibanez off waivers from the Athletics a bit more than a week ago. Ibanez was DFA’d on Tuesday.
Ibanez made multiple throwing errors in his first game at third base for the Mets, and his offensive production hasn't been much of anything, currently hitting .000 in six at-bats.
Speaking to reporters about his errors, it sounds like Carlos Mendoza is starting to point fingers, which is absolutely the last thing that anybody needs to do right now.
“Those are routine plays,” the skipper said of Ibanez’s errors, via SNY. “At this level, you expect those plays to be made; it’s as simple as that.”
I understand where Mendoza is coming from here, and I don't necessarily disagree with him. However, the last thing he should be doing is coming out and getting mad at guys.
The Mets have so many problems that it's impossible to get mad at one player for some of the issues we've seen this year. In the same breath, Ibáñez absolutely needs to make these plays, as they're as routine as they get in Major League Baseball.
