German tennis icon Boris Becker sees compatriot Alexander Zverev as the top favourite to win the French Open following Jannik Sinner's dramatic exit.
"If I may speak from Alexander Zverev's perspective: there isn't a single player I need to fear," the three-time Wimbledon champion told Eurosport.
Becker doesn't consider the players currently seen as Zverev's biggest rivals to be on the same level as him.
"Rafael Jódar is playing in his first Grand Slam tournament, Novak Djokovic is 39 years old, and Félix Auger-Aliassime isn't among the world's best on clay. Sorry, but Sascha is better."
Zverev's camp, however, isn't buying the idea that the path to his first Grand Slam title was now wide open.
"We must not forget: Novak is still in the running. With 24 Grand Slam titles under his belt, he knows what it takes," said Mischa Zverev, the brother of the world number three. "It's still a long tournament, so much can happen."
Zverev will face Quentin Halys in the third round later on Friday.
Sinner was eliminated in the second round after a defeat to Juan Manuel Cerundolo on Thursday. Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, meanwhile, withdrew before the start of the tournament due to a wrist injury.
