There's a common theme with some of the players that make up the Chicago Bears' 2025 draft class -- they all want to play with violence and an edge. That mindset, on both offense and defense, will help head coach Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Dennis Allen set the tone for how they want to build this team in their first year and how they can set a new standard for the team moving forward.
In the second round of the 2025 draft, the Bears added more depth on the offensive line with the selection of offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo out of Boston College. Trapilo brings added competition at the left tackle position with veteran Braxton Jones and last year's third round pick Kiran Amegadjie.
Trapilo knows he'll have to play violently, but also intelligently. That mindset should bode well for the rookie as he'll work with new offensive line coach Dan Roushar to find his best fit for this rebuilt offensive line.
"Coming into a new program, my main goal is to get on the field as soon as possible," Trapilo said. "I play hard and play tough, but I also play smart and under control. I don't let emotions get the best of me. I try to stay in the moment at all times and stay focused and disciplined...The best offensive linemen play with violence but keep it under control."
The Bears regime did extensive work this offseason to build an offensive line that will see several new names protecting quarterback Caleb Williams. After the unit gave up a league-high 68 sacks in 2024, Chicago struck two trades to bring in guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson, signed center Drew Dalman in free agency, and drafted Trapilo (and sixth-round guard Luke Newman) in this year's draft.
Those names, along with Jones and Amegadjie, will all be in competition to improve the play for the offensive line, which will only help Johnson's offense and his young quarterback.
