Heading into the 2026 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears needed to address their defensive line but waited until their very last pick to do so. Chicago traded their two seventh round selections to the Buffalo Bills for the No. 213 pick in the sixth round, using that pick to select Georgia Tech defensive tackle Jordan van den Berg, adding depth to the interior of their defensive line.
Despite being selected late in the draft, van den Berg has drawn rave reviews from draft experts and analysts, noting his rare athleticism and his underrated talent due to lack of exposure.
Following the conclusion of the draft, ESPN analyst Jeremy Fowler shared what he's hearing in the aftermath of the draft, and the biggest point coming out was that Chicago feels as if they got a steal in their sixth round defensive tackle, who could certainly compete for plenty of playing time in his rookie season.
One thing to take into consideration is that this Bears coaching staff, led by head coach Ben Johnson, have proven that if they find talent later in the draft, or undrafted free agency, they'll give an opportunity at playing time if it's earned. Needing depth at the defensive tackle position, van den Berg fulfills a need for Chicago and could quite possibly find himself with meaningful opportunities in his first year.

The Bears believe they're getting a steal with sixth-round defensive tackle Jordan van den Berg out of Georgia Tech. Several of his testing numbers hit the highest mark on the Bears' internal scouting scale. My sense is the Bears have plans for him beyond that of a typical sixth-round flier and believe he was one of more gifted defensive tackles in the draft.
