UNION − Regardless of the outcome, an era was going to end with the sixth New Jersey girls flag football championship game on June 10.

Bayonne wound up bringing down the curtain on two eras.

The Bees defeated three-time reigning champ Ridgewood, 20-19, at Kean’s Alumni Stadium. Junior quarterback Taleiyah Smith threw the winning 2-point conversion to freshman Camryn Pipher with 10 seconds remaining, capping a rally from a 19-0 deficit.

Bayonne then collected the final New York Jets-sponsored trophy awarded before flag football becomes an NJSIAA sanctioned sport in 2027.
