After two days of battling, two wins over Sequoyah Tahlequah and a thrilling upset of Valliant, Sequoyah Claremore came within one win of the area tournament.

The Eagles’ run ended in heartbreak Saturday afternoon in the Class 3A Regional 10 championship, falling 15-1 to a red-hot Valliant team in the winner-take-all finale.

Sequoyah split Thursday’s opening-round games against the Indians and Roland before toppling the former again in Saturday’s elimination game. Full stories from those early contests are available at claremoreprogress.com.

Championship Game 2: Valliant 15, Sequoyah 1

Valliant poured in seven runs in the third inning to break the game open and cruise to a mercy-rule victory, ending the Eagles' postseason run in the regional final.

The Bulldogs jumped out quickly, scoring three runs in the top of the first on a two-RBI single from Howard and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch.

After a two-run double by Dorries in the second, Valliant unleashed a barrage in the third, aided by walks, errors and timely hits — including a three-run double by Whitly — to extend the lead to 12-0.

Sequoyah’s lone run came in the fourth when Dylan Burks doubled and later scored on a steal of home. Burks, Clayton Miller and Cade Ogden each had a hit, but the Eagles struggled to find offensive rhythm against the Bulldogs' starter Dorries, who struck out five over five innings.

Championship Game 1: Sequoyah 5, Valliant 2

In their biggest win of the season, the Eagles stunned Valliant in the first championship game behind Braxton Watkins’ two-RBI single and Ryder Smalley’s complete-game gem.

Sequoyah opened strong with three runs in the top of the first. Watkins drove in two with a single to right, and Ogden scored on a sacrifice fly.

The Eagles tacked on a fourth run in the fifth when Smalley singled home Ryker Peters, then added an insurance run on a passed ball in the seventh.

Smalley was sensational, scattering six hits across seven innings with seven strikeouts and no walks. Derick Cole went 3-for-4 to lead the offense, and the defense turned two double plays in a clean, clutch performance.

Semifinals: Sequoyah 10, Sequoyah Tahlequah 7

Down 3-2 in the fourth, the Eagles surged ahead and never looked back thanks to Miller’s three-hit day and Cole’s clutch hitting.

Miller homered in the second to open the scoring and added two singles later. Cole delivered the decisive blow in a six-run fifth with a two-run double, helping Sequoyah seize a 10-4 lead. He finished with three RBIs.Ogden earned the win with 5.2 innings of work before Smalley slammed the door with a gutsy relief appearance. In total, the Eagles pounded out 13 hits, with multiple contributions up and down the lineup.
