Bam Adebayo leaves LeBron James off his all-time top five, but names two other current players

Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo revealed the five greatest basketball players in his eyes, but his list notably excluded Heat legend and NBA all-time leading scorer LeBron James.

LeBron almost returned to the Heat this summer to team up with Adebayo and Giannis Antetokounmpo, potentially winning another championship for the franchise 15 years after he led them to the 2012 title.

With LeBron heading to the Philadelphia 76ers instead, Adebayo’s list of his top five NBA players of all time had a huge absence.

Adebayo was asked for the five greatest players of all time, according to him, prompting the 29-year-old center to name five players, all considered LeBron’s biggest rivals, ahead of the new 76ers star.

“Kobe Bryant, Steph Curry, Michael Jordan, Kevin Durant, and Tim Duncan.”


The crowd of kids was literally chanting LeBron’s name but Adebayo stuck to what he believes to be true. Not only is LeBron not a top-five player in Adebayo’s eyes, but he’s also behind both Curry and Durant from his generation.

This is pretty harsh and hard to just dismiss as an individual preference. James’ body of work has comfortably outdone both Curry and Durant’s.

Curry has tied LeBron in championships, but with one Finals MVP compared to James’ four. Curry trails behind LeBron in basically every other all-time stat, with three-point shooting as an obvious exception.

Durant had to team up with Curry to beat LeBron for a title, previously losing the 2012 Finals to James’ Heat. With Durant only returning to the NBA Finals as part of a Warriors superteam, it’s easy to see why LeBron’s accomplishments comfortably outrank Durant’s.

Adebayo intentionally leaving out a Heat legend from this list after that legend chose to ignore a return to Miami can’t be a coincidence, especially when the names added instead of him are hard to justify outside of just citing personal preference.
