Although potential draft picks Keshawn Murphy and Keyshawn Hall did not hear their name called during the 2026 NBA draft, the Auburn Tigers did, in fact, have a player picked on Wednesday night.
The Atlanta Hawks drafted Auburn newcomer Narcisse Ngoy from France in a draft-and-stash move with the No. 57 pick. The pick is part of a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers. However, Ngoy will still play for the Tigers for the 2026-27 season as the first-ever college basketball draft-and-stash player. Ngoy confirmed his intention to play for Auburn next season in his Instagram story.
"I am thankful for the LA Clippers' confidence in me. I fully intend to honor my commitment to Auburn University. And I am looking forward to wearing the Auburn Tigers jersey for the 2026-27 season," Ngoy said.
So, what is a draft-and-stash?
Sometimes, in the second round of the NBA Draft, teams will use their selections on international players they have no intention of playing right away. In the past, they have had players continue to play for their team to develop as players. The NBA team will now have the rights to the player and will add the player to their roster when they feel the player is ready.
The situation with Ngoy is different. In April, the NCAA made a new rule that if a player does not opt in to the draft, they remain eligible, which is why Ngoy can still play for Auburn.
Ngoy should be a big part of the Tigers' plans for the 2026-27 season. While his offensive game is underdeveloped, he will give the Tigers a rim protector that the program has not had since Walker Kessler. He was named the MVP of the Elite 2 League in France, averaging 10.7 points per game. Ngoy also led the league in block shots per game at 2.7 and had a total of 434 rebounds. Along with winning MVP, he was also named the defensive player of the year.
