The Atlanta Hawks plan to bolster their center depth this offseason, and they are reportedly eyeing one of the top big men of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
According to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, the Atlanta Hawks are interested in acquiring Isaiah Hartenstein if the Oklahoma City Thunder don’t bring him back. The 28-year-old center will become an unrestricted free agent if Oklahoma City doesn’t exercise his $28.5 million team option.
“Multiple avenues to add frontcourt depth will present themselves to the Hawks this offseason outside of this eighth pick and Mara, as sources say they plan on making a run at Thunder center Isaiah Hartenstein should he have his team option declined and enter unrestricted free agency. It is also worth mentioning that the Hawks own the 23rd pick, where plenty of big men will be available near the end of the first round,” Siegel stated.
“There is a small possibility that Hartenstein’s team option will get picked up, but the league-wide belief is that he and the team will agree on a new long-term extension upon declining his $28.5 million option,” he continued. “As reported by ClutchPoints on May 13, the expectation is that Hartenstein will re-sign with the Thunder at a smaller cap figure to help the team.”

After leading the Atlanta Hawks to a 46-36 regular-season record for the team’s first outright playoff berth since 2020-21, the team confirmed that Quin Snyder signed his second contract extension with the franchise.
“Quin has been a phenomenal leader for our team, and extending his contract reflects our commitment to stability and sustained growth as we build toward high-level success,” Atlanta Hawks GM Onsi Saleh said of Snyder in a statement. “Over the past three seasons and amid an evolving roster, we’ve seen clear, measurable progress, which is a testament to the culture he’s established and the leadership he brings every day. He has created an environment where our players are challenged, supported, and empowered to grow, and that focus on player development has elevated our entire program.”
Under Snyder, the Atlanta Hawks had back-to-back recipients of the Most Improved Player Award, with Dyson Daniels winning it in 2025 and Nickeil Alexander-Walker winning it in 2026.
