The Atlanta Falcons stuck to their guns during the draft until the 7th round by selecting all defensive players.
In the 7th round of the 2025 NFL Draft, with pick number 218 overall, the Atlanta Falcons selected Wisconsin Badgers offensive tackle Jack Nelson. Nelson comes in with plenty of big-time experience, having started 50 games for the Badgers over his career.
Nelson is 6-foot-7 and weighs roughly 314 pounds. Over the years, Wisconsin has been known as Running Back University. Still, it could also be referred to as Offensive Linemen University, due to the number of linemen that the Badgers send to the NFL.

Here is an overview from NFL.com/Prospects on what Jack Nelson can bring to Atlanta. Durable four-year starter with Wisconsin football racing through his blood. He’s a better run blocker than pass protector on tape, with the quickness and athleticism to find his landmarks on move blocks. He operates with good strain and technique on base and drive blocks but won’t create much push.
Nelson’s pass sets can feel frantic with disheveled footwork, inconsistent body control and an anchor that could struggle to withstand NFL speed-to-power. He needs to get stronger, but his instincts and awareness in protection could pair with his range as a move blocker for consideration by zone-heavy teams.
This Atlanta draft pick is the only one not from the SEC. Nelson is seasoned and will provide ample protection for starter Michael Penix Jr. when the season starts. The Big Ten Conference also has its fair share of athletes with size when it comes to offensive linemen.
Atlanta now has 10 spots available to sign some free agent talent in an attempt to make the team. Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot said in his meeting on Wednesday that he expects there to be top talent that doesn't get drafted. Fontenot would also say, "There's more draftable players on the board this year than in previous years."
