Atalanta coach Sarri mourning death of his father at age 97
Atalanta have expressed their condolences after coach Maurizio Sarri left pre-season training following the death of his father, at age 97.
The tactician was not present at today’s session, which was taken by his assistant Marco Ianni, and the reason became clear a few hours later.
The club released a statement expressing profound sadness over the death of Amerigo Sarri, father of Maurizio.

He too was a big figure in the world of sport, a cycling champion in the post-war period who retired at the age of 25, but continued to play a large part in the success of the practice in Italy.
Amerigo Sarri was even part of the group who trained with legends like Gino Bartali.
