Astros just made the most obvious trade decision ever, but Braves must be upset originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
There are some players around Major League Baseball who would go for ridiculous packages if they ever get traded, and the Houston Astros have one of them in Yordan Alvarez.
Alvarez is undoubtedly one of the best players in Major League Baseball and, to me, one of the top pure hitters this game has ever seen.
Just watching Alvarez in the box can get very exciting, as the big left-handed hitter can really swing it with the best of them at all levels. When we start talking about some of the elite hitters in Major League Baseball, like Aaron Judge, Alvarez's name should be mentioned, even if some don't believe that.
If he were to be traded, there are some teams around Major League Baseball that would make a lot more sense to land him than others. One team that's been floated is the Atlanta Braves, but the latest report from ESPN's Buster Olney is far from ideal for the Braves or any other team that might have planned to be interested in him.
“I was told flat out by another GM, ‘He is not being traded," Olney said on the “Just Baseball Show” of Alvarez.
In the Astros' defense, I agree with them that moving on from Alvarez just doesn't make any sense. I always say that things can change in the blink of an eye around the deadline, and perhaps if the Braves are willing to give up a ridiculous package, they change their mind, but I highly doubt the Astros are going to make a move as big as this.
