Aston Villa trying to hijack Johan Manzambi deal

Just before the weekend, it looked as if SC Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi was headed to Newcastle United. However, Aston Villa has come charging in with an offer and could be seeking to lure the Switzerland international away from a prospective move to the Magpies.

Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg had the news:

Aston Villa were fully in the race, as exclusively revealed, and are still hoping for a chance with fresh contact. However, #NUFC remain hopeful of receiving the green light. Full agreement with SC Freiburg in place. It’s now up to the player. Decision very soon.

Aston Villa now seriously trying to hijack the imminent #NUFC deal. Fresh contact today as reported. Still no final commitment from the player to Newcastle. Following Amadou Onana’s injury, Aston Villa have now made an XXL offer to both the player and SC Freiburg. Decision soon.

While not a direct contender to Bayern Munich, SC Freiburg has a talented enough team to make some noise near the top of the table. Losing Manzambi, however, will hurt the squad’s chances in 2026/27.
