Cara Consuegra’s 2026-27 roster is changing again. We already saw that Charia Smith will be departing the program with one year of eligibility remaining, and now we have another player doing the same. On Monday, Aryelle Stevens published a post on Instagram to announce that she will be departing Marquette with her degree in hand.

For posterity’s sake:

Thank You Marquette

With my final year of eligibility, I have entered the portal as a Grad Student. Thanks you to the Staff for this opportunity. And Thank you Marquette for pouring into me. Excited for what’s to come

Arielle Stevens originally signed with Charlotte as a junior college prospect and she made the move to Marquette along with Cara Consuegra, who was Charlotte’s coach when she signed. It’s hard to say what Consuegra’s plan was for Stevens at Charlotte and in the American Conference, but whatever it was, it didn’t seem to translate to Marquette. Stevens appeared for a total of 100 minutes spread across 16 games in the 2024-25 season. Her season high was 15 minutes, which she hit twice. The first was in Marquette’s first game under Consuegra’s direction, and the second was in their non-Division 1 home game just 11 days later. Stevens played double digit minutes just twice after that, both before December 1st and both in lopsided victories. In Big East play, she appeared just six times for a total of 14 minutes.

We’ll never know what Consuegra’s plan for Stevens was for Year 2, as Stevens suffered an Achilles tear over the summer, and that pretty much ended her chances of playing in 2025-26. Taking all of that into account, particularly the grad transfer/grad school portion of it all, and you get a pretty solid picture of why she’s electing to depart Milwaukee.

And so, we update the scholarship/roster chart, and things get a little bit more ominous for the Marquette coaching staff…

Yep, that’s it, right now, Marquette has seven players on the board for 2026-27. Luckily for Cara Consuegra, two of them — Skylar Forbes and Halle Vice — were starters and arguably her two most impactful starters at that. Not so luckily, Consuegra currently has no backcourt experience returning, unless you want to count Kam Herring’s 48 minutes as a freshman. Two of the seven projected for the roster have straight up never played Division 1 basketball before, and it’s hard to say what kind of a player JJ Barnes will be after losing her first season on campus to a knee injury.

So, yeah. With just Se’Crette Carter joining the team as a high school recruit, the mode of operation for the Golden Eagles always seemed to be Portal Additions for next season. Marquette will need to add three players just to be able to play 5-on-5 in practice, so I’d expect to hear a lot of noise from MU in the transfer portal department once things get going next week.

I mean, what is the other option?
