Argentina's Leandro Paredes had hand around Spain player's throat in post-World Cup final scuffle

Sunday's World Cup final at MetLife Stadium was beyond a frustrating afternoon for Argentina. And it quickly got to the point where Argentina's Leandro Paredes lost his cool.

He might face further discipline even with the 2026 World Cup coming to an end.

After Spain's 1-0 win in extra time, Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni rushed to the field when he noticed his players getting into a scuffle with players from Spain. Paredes had already been shown a yellow card for shoving Dani Olmo earlier in the match, so something was brewing.

But after the game, Paredes really couldn't control himself. He shoved Gavi to the field and had his hand around Eric García's throat as Scaloni intervened.

Losing in a match where you've been outclassed is tough, but there's no excuse for Paredes to act like that.

FIFA will almost certainly take a closer look at the incident, and we shouldn't be surprised if Paredes is suspended for Argentina's next competitive match (if not longer).
