It was a drama-filled few days after the Kentucky Wildcats entry into this year's TBT (The Basketball Tournament) suffered a blowout loss to The Ville, Louisville's team. Archie Goodwin's absence in a game he was expected to play in angered fans and even other alumni, and all the talk was about players not wanting to participate. On Wednesday, though, Goodwin did return to play in the third and deciding game of the series, and it was everything the team needed.
Goodwin and the former Cats fell behind early, and it looked like the injuries and lack of depth in the frontcourt would do them in. However, they kept battling and cut into the lead. The second half was an exciting one, but La Familia would not be denied. They'd pull ahead late, and Goodwin himself hit the game-ending basket, giving Kentucky the Elam ending win 63-57.
Willie Cauley-Stein deserves a ton of credit. He played hurt, but still played effective defense, and added 10 points and 11 rebounds. Darryl Morsell was very good once again with 20 points, but it was Goodwin who stole the show in his return. He scored 22 points, had 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals, and he hit the games final shot to seal it for the Wildcats.
La Familia will move on to play the winner between Boeheim's Army, the Syracuse team, and Hall in from Seton Hall. That game will take place on Sunday in Lexington.
