There has been plenty of discussion over the last few months about who the next "face of the NBA" will be.

Minnesota Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards made it clear he does not think he is that guy, but his performance on the court suggests otherwise.

Edwards and his Minnesota Timberwolves teammates made quick work of the Los Angeles Lakers, eliminating them in five games on Wednesday night.

Minnesota beat a Lakers team that had LeBron James teaming up with Luka Doncic in Los Angeles—a squad that entered the postseason as one of the "teams to beat" after finishing third in the Western Conference during the regular season.

Following the Game 5 win, the media asked what winning the series meant to Edwards, and he gave a very honest response:

"It means a lot, we beat the best player in the world.

"If Ant just beat ‘the best player in the world’ does that make him next in line? Conversations need to be had." one fan wrote.

"ANT gotta be on another planet rn he beat LeBron." said another.

"Well deserved @theantedwards_. Now time to handle business in semi finals," another fan responded.

"There is absolutely no way Ant is talking about Lebron. I think he took a few too many bong rips before the presser." another fan responded.

"Fake MJ fans are going to turn on him for calling LeBron the best player ever." another fan wrote.

Edwards finished the series averaging 26.8 points per game, along with 8.4 rebounds and 6.2 assists during the postseason.

Minnesota now awaits the winner of the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors series. Heading into Friday, the Warriors lead the series 3-2.
