Amelia Harris just had a round for the record books at the U.S. Girls' Junior.

The incoming freshman at South Carolina is the early leader during the first round of stroke play at Old Chatham in Durham, North Carolina, thanks to what's likely the best nine-hole, stroke-play score in tournament history. On the back nine, Harris had eight birdies, including a 40-footer from off the green on the 18th, to finish at 8-under 28 on the side and 9-under 63 for the day.

The USGA doesn't keep nine-hole scoring records at the U.S. Girls' Junior, but it's believed to be the lowest nine-hole score in the tournament's 77-year history.

"I just couldn’t miss a putt on the back nine," Harris said. "Coming through the turn, I had missed a really short putt on No. 9 and I was kind of just like, 'Oh, I don't want to do that anymore.' So, I don't really have many words other than that I putt really well and got lucky on some shots."

The reaction says it all

How about capping it off with a 40-footer on 18?! https://t.co/m89t6twIFnpic.twitter.com/JvsfZX3OlE

Harris had two birdies on the front nine and turned in 1-under 35. That's when she began the run. Birdies on 10 and 11, the lone par on the back nine on 12, then she finished with six straight birdies coming home to sign for 63. She has a three-shot lead after the morning wave. It's the lowest stroke-play round at the U.S. Girls' Junior since 2021, when Rose Zhang signed for 62 in the second round.

The top 64 players after 36 holes of stroke play will advance to match play, with the Round of 64 set to begin Wednesday morning. After Monday's historic performance, Harris has all but assured herself a spot in the match-play bracket.

"This is my first time here," Harris continued. "I think it's really nice. It can be rewarding, but it can be quite tough if you're having a hard day. So, I think today was one of those rewarding days, so we'll see how it goes tomorrow."
