CUMBERLAND — After losing three of its last four games, No. 4 Allegany came ready to play on Wednesday.
The Campers (10-5, 4-3 Western Maryland Athletic Conference) led 22-4 after one quarter and never looked back, cruising to an 83-45 victory over Northern.
"Really good to bounce back like that, we're super pleased," Allegany head coach Brandon Reed said. "We had a really good practice yesterday, it was nice to finally get back to practice. The kids embraced that we needed to do something different, and I think they hit it head on."
Tied at 2 less than a minute into the game, Alco's Landon Holliday scored 10 unanswered points.
Holliday scored 12 of his 16 points in the opening frame, adding three rebounds and two steals.
"We've been telling him, that's what he's capable of," Reed said of Holliday. "If you're hot, we'll find you and keep giving you the ball."
Caleb Hinebaugh scored both baskets for the Huskies (6-9, 0-7 WestMAC) in the first quarter, which came nearly three minutes apart.
"I wish I would've had a team that would show up for defense," Northern head coach Jeremy Johnson said. "Giving up 83 points, just not gonna cut it in any game."
Allegany led 22-4 after one quarter, 42-19 at halftime and 62-37 after three.
In the first half, the Campers shot 17 of 34 (50%) from the field.
Holliday went 5 for 7 from the field and was one of seven players to score for Alco.
"I just think it was us, not taking anything away from Allegany," Johnson said of the defense. "That's not my goal by saying that. But our help side, it seemed like it was non existent.
"We tried our best to take (Chris) Manherz out of the game, and they knew that. We did a pretty good job in the first half, the second half, you give that kid six feet, he's got you."
Northern went 7 of 19 (37%) from the field and 3 of 6 from deep.
The Campers scored 19 of 42 first half points (45%) off turnovers, forcing 16 with eight in each quarter.
"I think lack of movement on offense," Johnson said of the turnovers. "Credit Allegany and their defense, but we just seemed very stagnant tonight. Offensively as well as defensively, we were just really sluggish. Not playing the game that I'd like us to play."
In the second half, Manherz scored 14 of his team-high 19 points for Allegany.
He also recorded six assists, three steals and two rebounds.
"Chris just let the game come to him," Reed said of Manherz, who averages 24.3 points per game and had five at halftime. "He did a really good job of that. He made some great passes tonight. We know he can score when he needs to, but he's a complete player. I think he really showed that tonight."
Sebastian Stewart added 15 points with 13 across the second and third quarters, also posting four rebounds, a steal and a block.
Chase Deremer added eight boards, six points, three steals and two assists while Traeh Grassi and Rylen Ellsworth each had five rebounds.
Jayden McNally led both teams with 21 points for Northern, adding a steal and a block.
Both teams face rivals on Friday.
The Campers host No. 2 Fort Hill (12-3, 5-1 WestMAC) at 7 p.m. while the Huskies travel to No. 1 Southern (10-6, 4-1 WestMAC) at 7:30 p.m.
Allegany won the first meeting 56-50 on Jan. 9.
"It was a grind, they played very physical," Reed said of the Sentinels. "I thought we matched the intensity. We're just gonna have to do the same thing. They're gonna come ready to play, we're gonna come ready to play. Hopefully we come out on the right side again."
Alco's junior varsity team won 73-13 led by Kyran Freeman's 19 points, followed by Dylan Hare's 16 and Khiante Bible's 12.
Hunter Long scored 10 of the Huskies' 13 points.
