Alexandra Eala's run at Indian Wells has come to an end. The 20-year-old rising star from the Philippines ran into a player in Linda Noskova who would not be denied on Tuesday.
The 6-2, 6-0 moves Noskova, of Czechia, into the quarterfinals at the BNP Paribas Open, where she'll now face qualifier Talia Gibson of Australia.
But on Tuesday, the story was Eala's run coming to an end. She attracted some of the biggest crowd at the event this year, playing in from of packed stadiums, including the 16,000-seat Stadium 1.
Tuesday's match, on Stadium Court, wasn't in front of a full stadium. But Eala did have the crowd's support throughout.
It's hardly mattered. Eala struggled mightily with her first serve and Noskova was always one or two steps ahead in her return game. There were times in the match when Eala appeared to be so frustrated that her effort wasn't as high as it has been in previous matches here at Indian Wells.
On the other side of the net, Noskova was virtually flawless in the match. She crushed forehand winners and her backhand was also a serious weapon.
