Alex Cora speaks on whether Garrett Crochet is dealing with an injury after latest Red Sox setback originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Boston Red Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet is one of the best starters in the world for a reason. Whenever he's on the mound every five games, the expectation is for him to be just as good as anybody in Major League Baseball.
That was far from the case against the Minnesota Twins, as he gave up 10 earned runs against one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball on Monday.
Crochet just didn't look like his normal self, and it prompted a lot of questions about how he feels. However, according to skipper Alex Cora, nothing is currently wrong injury-wise with the big left-hander.
“He’s healthy, so that’s the most important thing,” Cora said, per NESN.
I'm not ready to say that this is anything other than Crochet just struggling a bit. Starters go through this at any point throughout their career, even the best of the best, like the Red Sox ace. However, I do think it's important to point out that Crochet hasn't been a starter for most of his career. This could be innings catching up to him, so that's something Boston will have to consider in its future plans.
