AIC athletic director appointed to NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Committee

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – American International College Director of Athletics Rob Kearney has been appointed to the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Committee, where he will serve as the East Region representative beginning Sept. 1.

Kearney’s four-year term will run through August 2030. His appointment places him among eight administrators and coaches from across the country who help oversee the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship.

“I’m thrilled about this. It’s a real honor,” said Kearney. “Getting the chance to represent AIC on a national committee means a lot to me, and it says a lot about where we are as an athletic department. I can’t wait to get to work with colleagues from around the country and do my part to make the championship experience the best it can be for these student-athletes. That’s what it’s all about.”

According to the NCAA, the committee is responsible for developing policies and procedures governing the administration and conduct of the Division II Men’s Basketball Championship. Kearney will help oversee the tournament from regional competition through the national championship.

Each of the NCAA’s eight Division II regions is represented on the committee by a full-time coach or athletics administrator. As East Region representative, Kearney will attend the NCAA East Regional each March, travel to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight and participate in annual committee meetings at NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis.

Kearney will represent 30 institutions across three conferences: the Northeast-10 Conference, where AIC competes, as well as the East Coast Conference and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

College officials said the appointment highlights AIC’s growing leadership role within NCAA Division II athletics and further raises the institution’s profile on the national stage.
