Algeria delivered a commanding statement in their opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, securing a comprehensive 3-0 win over Sudan at the Stade Prince Moulay Hassan in Rabat.

Captain Riyad Mahrez set the tone for the Desert Foxes with breathtaking speed, finding the net just two minutes after kickoff. He then cemented his man-of-the-match performance on the hour mark, adding a superb second goal with a display of classic dribbling and finishing.

Sudan's challenge was further undermined when Salaheldin Adel received a second yellow card, reducing them to ten men. Exploiting their numerical superiority, Algeria controlled the tempo and capped off the dominant display late on. Teenage substitute Ibrahim Maza wrote a memorable chapter in his international career, coming off the bench to net a debut goal in the 85th minute and complete the scoring.

The victory immediately positions Vladimir Petković's team at the summit of Group E as they prepare for their next fixture against Burkina Faso on December 28.
