It’s Tuesday, which means that the ACC Tournament starts today. Pitt plays Cal at 2:00, Syracuse plays SMU at 4:30, and Wake Forest plays Virginia Tech at 7:00.
We might get lucky and get a thrilling game, but the odds seem to be against it. We’d like to see Jeff Capel’s Pitt win, but Stanford is better. SMU is most likely going to take out Syracuse, too.
It’s possible that Pitt and Syracuse lose on Tuesday and Capel and Adrian Autry are fired Wednesday. There are reports that Pitt boosters are prepared to buy Capel’s contract out. Autry is getting a lot of heat from his fan base, with one calling in to his radio show and asking who he thought his replacement would be (the call was quickly terminated).
Wake Forest and Virginia Tech should be the best game. Both teams are flawed, but both can play very, very well at times.
Wake has dynamic scorers, while Hokie coach Mike Young is a masterful offensive coach. We’d have to go with Virginia Tech here, but Wake is capable of pulling the upset.

Poor guy sort of lost it after falling to Virginia in the regular-season finale: “I take nothing away from those guys, they played really hard, and both teams played really hard. The game… missed dunk would have tied it. This kid’s playing his guts out. Then (Ben) Hammond misses two foul shots, he’s up close to 90 [percent] on the year. And No. 33 (Virginia’s Ugonna Onyenso), come on man, give me a break. Give me a break, really? Kid makes two 3s? And a huge one over there in front? Come on. What the f–k am I doing wrong?”
Poor guy. We’ll give him credit for his frustration with Onyenso, who’s not exactly a three-point shooter.
