The Boston Red Sox have young arms galore in their farm system.
Anthony Eyanson and Kyson Witherspoon are each ranked in the upper portion of MLB.com's top-100 prospect rankings, while the recently acquired Gage Ziehl has struck out 30 batters in 25 innings with the Portland Sea Dogs.
Brayan Bello and Eduardo Rivera are holding down the rotation in Triple-A Worcester, but the latest standout comes all the way from Greenville.
Devin Futrell is a 23-year-old, six-foot-five 2024 MLB Draftee. Boston selected him in the 10th round and led the organization in A-ball with a 1.87 ERA in 2025.
He earned a promotion to High-A this season, where his great performance has followed. MLB.com's Jesse Borek reported his career-best performance on Wednesday.
"Both the first and 84th pitch Devin Futrell threw Tuesday night went to nearly the exact same spot. One was a heater that a batter swung through, the other was a backdoor curveball that left a hitter frozen. Both offerings were emblematic of a career-best 12-strikeout performance for the 23-year-old," Borek wrote.
"Futrell helped steer High-A Greenville to a 2-0 victory over Asheville at Flour Field, striking out each of the first five batters he faced. There was just one frame in which the left-hander didn’t record a K, making up for it by notching at least two in every other inning."
Futrell has now struck out 63 batters in 56 innings, only walking nine. He has held opponents to a .198 batting average this month and has not allowed a run in the last 13 innings.
Learn the name Devin Futrell, as the left-hander will surely continue to climb the ranks this summer.
