Five-star cornerback John Meredith lll has officially committed to Texas, per Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett.
Meredith is widely regarded as one of the top overall players in the 2027 class. The cornerback’s top three schools included Alabama, Texas, and Texas A&M, but Meredith ultimately decided that the Longhorns were the best fit prior to his freshman campaign in 2027. The cornerback has elite speed and athleticism considering his 6-foot-2, 175 pound frame, but Meredith has officially chosen Texas over Alabama despite an extremely hard push from head coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff.
Meredith is ranked as the No. 1 cornerback and the No. 2 overall player from the class of 2027, per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He is listed as the No. 1 overall player out of Texas where he attends North Crowley High School, as Meredith would have been a massive victory for the Crimson Tide’s 2027 class if he committed to Alabama over Texas.
Alabama continues to target some of the top overall talent from the 2027 class, but Meredith appears to have reached a final decision and will not be in Tuscaloosa for his freshman campaign nonetheless.
