The San Francisco 49ers have a veteran-heavy roster, as they had an average roster age of 26.67 years old this offseason, which was the second oldest in the league, only behind the Washington Commanders.
However, there are still plenty of young players in San Francisco that the team hopes that they can rely on going forward.
Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox recently went through all 32 teams to find the most promising building block still on each roster. For the 49ers, he identified offensive lineman Dominick Puni as that guy.
"San Francisco 49ers guard Dominick Puni earned a spot on our list last year following a terrific rookie season, Knox wrote. "The former third-round pick out of Kansas was just as impressive, if not more so, in his second season... As long as he can stay healthy, Puni should be a mainstay along the offensive line."
Through two seasons, Puni has appeared in all 34 possible games and has played every offensive snap for the 49ers. Battling a knee injury, he still held his own for most of his 2025 campaign.
San Francisco probably hopes that 2025 first-round pick Mykel Williams joins Puni in this conversation, but after his rookie season was cut short due to a torn ACL, the former Georgia Bulldog will have to prove himself in 2026.
