After his recent car accident that led to some serious injuries two weeks ago, Kyle Shanahan has candidly opened up about what went wrong.

The San Francisco 49ers announced a few days ago that coach Kyle Shanahan would be missing in action for some time following a car accident he was involved in.

The crash reportedly left the NFL legend with a concussion, a broken left hand, three broken ribs, a broken nose, and 40 stitches above the eye.

Naturally, fans were curious about exactly what happened, and Shanahan has now opened up on exactly how it all unfolded and accepted responsibility.

Kyle Shanahan admits he made the mistake that led to the accident

According to reports, the crash occurred at 6:12 p.m. on July 14 in Palo Alto, California. Shanahan’s Tesla Model S crashed into the other driver’s SUV.

The Niners’ coach gave his account of what went wrong and clarified that he was the one at fault. The CHP database had a clerical error blaming the other driver, but Shanahan set the record straight.

“I hit her,” Shanahan told the press. “I don’t know why it was reported that way [on the collision report database]. The police report doesn’t say that.

“I was going 20 miles an hour,” Shanahan said. “I was not on my phone, but I dropped my phone and it was stuck in my seats. It’s on my lap and it slid off.

“And I went down to look for it and took my eyes off the road for two seconds… I took my eyes off the road looking for my phone, and my car veered into someone.”

The entire ordeal seems to have been a harrowing one for the 49ers coach, who has been with the team in a limited capacity since. Hopefully, both involved parties will recover from the ordeal quickly.
