The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of rookie Romello Height to a four-year deal. Height, the first of two third-round picks, still participated during OTAs despite not being under contract. There was never a worry that he’d hold out into training camp.

Per the CBA’s rookie wage scale, Height’s four-year deal totals $7.29 million. Here’s a breakdown by year:

2026 – $1.325m
2027 – $1.65m
2028 – $1.98m
2028 – $2.31m

Height, 25, is the epitome of college football players since the transfer rules changed. He played at Auburn early in his career. He transferred to USC in 2023, where he played in 12 games and had four sacks. Then he went to Georgia Tech and started in 12 games, but his production dipped, and he finished with only 2.5 sacks. In 2025, Height’s production exploded, playing alongside other NFL players. At Texas Tech, in 14 starts, Height had 9.5 sacks and 11 tackles for loss.

It took being a sixth-year senior for Height to get onto the NFL’s radar, but you can’t disregard averaging a tackle per loss per game, and having the fourth-highest pressure rate in the class.

Now, he’s walking into a scenario where he’ll be a designated pass rusher and get to pin his ears back on obvious passing downs.
