With just a few weeks left before the new season, the last thing the San Francisco 49ers need is a distraction. However, it looks like they have to deal with one, particularly involving offensive tackle Trent Williams.
Williams is in hot water after TMZ reported on Sunday that a car company is suing him for failing to pay his lease on a 2018 Porsche 911 in 2021. That year, he signed a six-year million contract extension worth $138.06 million with the 49ers, making him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL.
“According to OpenRoad (Auto Group), Williams agreed to make 48 monthly payments, with the lease expiring August 31, 2025,” wrote TMZ.

“The company claims Williams made the first two lease payments in August and September 2021 in the total amount of $10,617.26, but hasn’t made a single payment since.”
The 38-year-old Williams is being sued for breach of contract and fraud, among others.
TMZ added that Williams may have closed his bank account “shortly after initially signing the release,” as alleged by OpenRoad Auto Group.
“The company says it doesn’t know where the car is now, claiming Williams may have sold it to a car company which in turn sold it to someone else. Either way, the company says Williams owes past-due lease payments totaling $244,199.28, as well as additional charges, fees and costs,” said TMZ.
Williams, a five-time All-Pro and 12-time Pro Bowler, signed a two-year contract extension with the 49ers worth $50 million. According to ESPN, he became the first non-quarterback to surpass $400 million in career earnings and $225 million in guarantees.
As of writing, he has yet to comment on the lawsuit.
