With the Cincinnati Reds leading the Seattle Mariners 6-4 in the bottom of the 7th inning of Tuesday night's 8-4 win, the Mariners' Casey Legumina, a former Reds pitcher, was facing the Reds' Austin Hays when Fanduel Sports Network's John Sadak mentioned that Reds fans at Great American Ball Park have been counting down the pitch clock since a game early in the season against the San Francisco Giants.

"The crowd trying to count down the pitch clock, something that worked with celebrated success in the first series of the year against the Giants," Sadak said during the broadcast. "Trying to do a little bit in advance of what the clock's actually showing. They're chanting it out about four seconds in advance of what the clock says. The clock says eight, they say four. Clock says seven, they say three."

"The fact that they stayed, the fact that they're engaged, I think that's amazing," FSN analyst and National Baseball Hall of Famer Barry Larkin added. "I love that. We haven't had that in Cincinnati. And I think these fans have just - they bought in. They're showing up. They're engaged. I think it's great."

The fans started chanting during the series finale March 30 against San Francisco. As The Enquirer's Gordon Wittenmyer wrote, Giants starter Robbie Ray seemed displeased by a pitch-timer violation. After Matt McLain homered, fans began chanting the countdown of the pitch clock during a four-pitch walk to Santiago Espinal.
